ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
On April 5th, 2022, students in the Grand Erie District School Board (GEDSB) and the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board (BHNCDSB) were introduced to exciting careers in the skilled trades by six inspiring young tradespeople. Students also heard from two skilled trades employers from The Chamber of Commerce Brantford-Brant.
WELCOME AND OVERVIEW OF THE SKILLED TRADES
Job Talks Executive Director Dr. Jon Callegher provided an overview of exciting careers in the skilled trades in Motive Power, Services, Industrial, and Construction. He then discussed the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) with educators Carmine Romano (BHNDSB) and David Eelkema (GEDSB).

DEE DURANT
APPRENTICE ELECTRICIAN
Dee completed her studies at Conestoga College and is currently completing her apprenticeship. She is also a public speaker and an Ambassador for Kick Ass Careers.
GABE IMOLA
GENERAL CARPENTER
Gabe completed all 3 terms of schooling with honors and became a fully licensed General Carpenter at age 22. He is currently a Lead Hand Carpenter at his company.
KEVIN VAN KESSEL
AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE TECHNICIAN
Kevin is a fully licenced Automotive Service Technician. He was hired through his co-op placement right out of school and began acquiring hours for apprenticeship immediately.

CNC PROGRAMMER
Hannah is a (CNC) Computerized Numerical Control Programmer. Her career began 5 years ago, when she completed a co-op in tool & die and was hired on during the summer.
STEVEN BROTZ
AUTO MECHANIC
Steven is a fully licensed Auto Mechanic. He was hired during his co-op placement and finished earning his license through the same company.
BEN RICE
CABINETMAKER
Ben has started his career as a Cabinetmaker. He came into his job out of a high school co-op placement.

Kyle Manfredi is President of ARK Electrical. Operating out of Brantford and working with residential new builds and service calls, as well as commercial and industrial, his company has experienced consistent growth over 7 years and has plans to expand to other locations.
JAMIE BOWMAN
BOWMAN PRECISION TOOLING
Jamie is President of Bowman Precision Tooling, a global supplier of automotive metal stamping dies. He is a graduate of Business and Tool and Die programs at Mohawk College with more than 30 years experience in the metal stamping and die building Industry.
